The fuel needs to be well filtered not to cause any sensitivity or clogging in the fuel system. Bad filtration causes problems such as decrease of the performance of the engine, an increase of fuel consumption, malfunctions in the operation of the engine and decrease in the life cycle of the engine. Fuel filters procure the purification of solid particles from the fuel in the fuel systems and engines.
The pore size of the paper used in the fuel filters is smaller than of other filters’. The reason for this is the high viscosity and the need for the fuel to be well filtered. If the pore size of the filter is greater than what is required, the fuel will not be purified of particle size impurities and thus it will cause a clogging or any other damage to the system. The filtration element needs an area of filtration suitable to supply the sufficient amount of fuel requirement of the engine. And thus it is possible if the motor specific values are taken into consideration during the design of the filter element. Depending on the engine it is used by; installation of impurity sensors on some fuel filters and drain plug for water disposal is present. By-pass systems or return systems are not equipped by fuel filters as they are not required.
